Our copyediting training courses are designed by experienced practitioners to help get you up and running as a competent and professional copyeditor, and our training is highly regarded in the publishing industry.
Copyediting 1: Introduction is a self-assessed course, but students have access to a member of the CIEP tutor team should they need any support. Copyediting 2: Headway and Copyediting 3: Progress are both assessed courses, and students will work with a dedicated tutor throughout both courses. Copyediting courses FAQs
Do I have to complete all three of the core copyediting courses?
If you haven't previously completed any copyediting training or gained any copyediting experience, we strongly recommend starting with Copyediting 1: Introduction and working you way through the suite of courses. However, we understand that students have varied levels of experience and existing skills and knowledge. If you feel that you meet the criteria listed on the relevant course page, you may be eligible to enrol directly on the Headway or Progress course. How long does each course take to complete?
You'll have access to Copyediting 1: Introduction for nine months from the date you enrol, and six months for Copyediting 2: Headway and Copyediting 3: Progress. We recommend allowing at least 10–15 hours of study time to complete Copyediting 1: Introduction, and at least 20–25 hours for Copyediting 2: Headway and Copyediting 3: Progress.
Will I receive a certificate after completing the course?
Yes, all students receive a certificate upon completion of their copyediting course.
Do these courses count towards my CIEP membership upgrade application?
Yes. Completion of Copyediting 1: Introduction is worth 2 upgrade points, or 3 points upon successfully passing a short post-course quiz. Copyediting 2: Headway and Copyediting 3: Progress attract 2 upgrade points each for completion, with an additional 3 points each for passing the course.
