Hello, I'm Rachael, a copyeditor and proofreader specialising in art, craft and design non-fiction, and academic writing (social sciences and humanities). I find whipping references and bibliographies into shape strangely enjoyable and very satisfying. I have extensive experience of working with writers whose main language is not English, and enjoy delving into the nuances of meaning that can be lost in translation.
I'm also a technical editor for knitting and crochet patterns, which is a marriage between my editing brain and my love for knitting, crochet (weaving, spinning, embroidery...).
Before my life as an editor, I worked as a grant writer for various international charities and non-governmental organisations for over a decade. I also spent time as a tour leader for an adventure travel company, working and traveling throughout Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and central Europe. I have a degree in South East Asian Studies with Language (Malay).

Testimonials:
"My colleague and I had a contract to publish a collective volume on a very specific topic in human sciences with many authors who were not native English speakers. Not being native English speakers ourselves, we were not able to see all the linguistic flaws in the contribution. I really appreciated Rachael’s organization (the work lasted several months), her method and the way she explained all the suggestions for change. In short, it was very reassuring for us to know that we could rely 100% on her work." Isabelle Aubert, Lecturer in the Philosophy of Law, Sorbonne University
“We were looking for a professional copy editor with proven technical experience in editing crochet instructions and charts. We would definitely recommend Rachael, as we were able to completely rely on her thanks to her expertise. We like the fact that she offered a package of copyediting, chart designing and copywriting.” Caroline Guillet, Assistant Editor, Herbert Press (Bloomsbury)
