I’m passionate about transforming text so it can be clearly understood by the reader. With more than 20 years’ experience as an editor and proofreader, I don’t just check the basics like spelling and grammar – I cast a critical eye over the writing to flag up inconsistencies and potential inaccuracies.
Since going freelance, I’ve worked for leading publishers such as DK, as well as organisations including the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Institution of Civil Engineers. I specialise in world travel, architecture and infrastructure, but I’m happy to take on any subject – topics I’ve covered range from cookery and children’s crafts to gardening and heart health.
I can work in either UK or US English, and have also anglicised text from US English. I’m experienced in editing work by authors who have English as a second language.
I have a keen interest in public policy and regularly proofread policy papers for the Institution of Civil Engineers, some of which are produced in conjunction with the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Infrastructure.
Before going freelance, I was a managing editor for a leading publisher of world travel guides, and before that I began my career as a journalist.
Since going freelance, my clients have included:
“Thanks so much for your work on this – and the many, many other books you’ve worked on for us this year. It’s always so great knowing they’re being looked over by you.”
Alex Pathe, Editor, DK Travel
“Thanks for your valuable input. You spotted things I never would have!”
Dean Keyworth, author of New Luxury, RIBA Publishing
“Thank you again for all your work, and insightful comments, and your enthusiasm for the book, it has really been a great benefit to the project.”
Shahed Saleem, author of The British Mosque, Historic England
“Thank you, as always, for turning this around so quickly.”
David McNaught, Policy Manager, Institution of Civil Engineers
“Thank you so much for all of your patience and perseverance. You were a wonderful tonic to a beast of a book, and the book needed your beady eye!”
Lucy Richards, Senior Editor, DK Travel
