About Jane

Featured

I like to make good books better and try to make their passage into print as smooth as possible for the author and the publisher. I have more than 35 years' experience as a fulltime freelance copy-editor, working on books and journals in the arts and humanities. My degree was in French and Latin literature but my copy-editing has educated me in a wide range of subjects, from the ancient world (history, philosophy/theology, literature) to the present (journalism, sustainability, international relations, poltical theory, management), with many stops in between.

Subjects

Education, environmental studies/sustainability, gender studies, history (19th century, 20th century, British, church, economic, family), human rights, international relations, journalism, literary studies (critical editions, literary criticism, literary theory, student guides), literature other than English (French, Latin), management, philosophy, politics/government (British, political theory), psychology, religious studies/theology

Experience

Freelance since 1985. Too many books to list here so I have just noted a few ongoing projects. I can supply details of relevant experience if you contact me about a particular job.
