About Emma

An eye for detail, a way with words and a sense of the bigger picture

I’m a skilled editor, writer and project manager with substantial in-house and freelance experience. Over the years, I’ve worked on hundreds of publishing projects. I offer a full range of editorial and production services to publishers, authors and content creators. I work at every stage of the publishing process to turn ideas into books.

I’ve been an editor since 2004 (freelance since 2010). A large part of my work involves editing and managing projects for educational publishers. I have extensive experience in trade publishing, especially non-fiction and cookery. I also edit and write reports, marketing material and company resources for commercial and non-profit organisations.

Testimonials

Working with Emma and Rónán on my latest series of books has been a pleasure. Emma’s attention to detail, intuition and insightful suggestions made my job as an author so much easier. Her efficient communication and consistency has made working together on this project seamless. I look forward to working with them both again soon.

I would like to thank Emma and Rónán for their work on the Natural World textbooks. From an author’s perspective, both Emma and Rónán streamlined the writing process at every possible opportunity and made my job as an author extremely easy. When working on projects, I can find myself stuck in a macro-view, seeing the project as a whole and concentrating on the ‘big picture’. Emma and Rónán’s sharp eyes for editing really provided the perfect complement for the project, ensuring that the micro, finer-details matched up with the wider direction ... Additionally, the nature of writing a Leaving Certificate Geography textbook means you are dealing with complex issues. Once again, Emma and Rónán helped me navigate these issues with care and consciousness. I wouldn’t hesitate to work with Emma and Rónán again in the future. I am extremely grateful to them for everything they contributed to the project.

It was a great pleasure to collaborate with Emma Farrell and Rónán Vaughan as the quality of their work is simply outstanding. Their dedication, commitment and enthusiasm were of enormous help to me when working to tight deadlines. I was delighted to have their help and support throughout the writing of the book. Science textbooks have an abundance of scientific terms, symbols, and formulae but Emma and Rónán looked after everything with meticulous attention to detail. I have no hesitation in giving Dog's-ear my highest possible recommendation.

This book could not have been written without considerable help from many generous people, who were willing to share their experience in the hope that reading it might help someone other than themselves. I am particularly grateful to my friends Emma Farrell and Ronan Vaughan at Dog’s-ear.

This book would not exist without the passion, work ethic and great sense of humour of Emma Farrell and Ronan Vaughan of Dog’s-ear. They continuously go above and beyond with their work with me. You two are fab and I’m very grateful you are part of the team.

I made a point of telling the Publishing Director how professional, helpful and informed Dog’s-ear are. I told her that she could not have a better team working in an editorial capacity on any project. Thank you both very much. Your help and generosity over the last six months has been lovely … You are a touch of class and any success this book may have will owe a great debt to your contribution.
