About Steve

You want your words to have maximum impact. That’s where I come in as a copyeditor, ensuring clarity by polishing up phrasing and making sure your text flows smoothly. I will fact check when required.

You want your text to be correct. That’s where I come in as a proofreader, by eliminating annoying errors and ensuring consistency.

I am also journalist. I write daily. So I understand the challenges writers face.

Indeed, I have been immersed in reporting and editing international business news for 27 years, so company documentation is my strong suit. The mining and metals sectors are my trump cards, but I have also dealt with logistics, the supply chain, online privacy and cybercrime among others.

Because I write daily, delivering to tight deadlines is second nature to me. That may be an important consideration for your business needs.

Experience

My projects over the years include proofreading companies’ annual reports, documents for an initial public offer (IPO), a diplomatic mission’s brochure, a 110,000-word memoir and copyediting part of a course book for teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL).

In addition, I have built up vast experience of sub-editing material from writers for whom English is a second language. When an in-house editor, I trained colleagues to write better in English. That experience may be of use to you.

My own knowledge of language is enhanced by seven years spent TEFL teaching in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Chile.

There is also an empathetic element in my current work as I provide content for an organisation which supports survivors of domestic abuse. Therefore I am well used to dealing with sensitive material. What is more, my understanding of human existence is bolstered by my 13 years as a district reporter for evening newspapers in the UK. In that time I saw many aspects of life, warts and all.

Away from the business world and social issues, my interests are:

                            • history

                            • politics

                            • current affairs

                            • football

                            • hiking

                            • travelling

                            • exploring

So I am always keen to be assigned projects in those subject areas.

Among my clients are a corporate communications agency, an industry organisation in Germany, a steel company, an international provider of commodity market analysis, price assessments and data, a proofreading agency, and an organisation which helps survivors of domestic abuse.
