About Sara
I am passionate about helping writers from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds refine their own unique voice in English. I have over a decade of experience in teaching English and Japanese. I also translate texts from Japanese to English for businesses, government agencies and academics.
My services are tailored to individual authors and organisations. I offer complimentary meetings on Zoom to each author to discuss the specific needs and concerns of their writing project.
For my editing and proofreading work, I specialise in the social sciences and the humanities, especially works pertaining to Japan and other parts of Asia. Having studied ten languages so far, I also edit language textbooks and foreign-language curriculums. I've recently edited and advised on elementary and secondary school curriculums for Italian, French, Spanish, German, Mandarin, Japanese, Hindi, Arabic and Turkish.
Successful academic writing involves much more than minding your commas or getting your tenses right. I offer detailed guidance on English grammar, style and usage (UK/US/Australian), as well as formatting and referencing to help you achieve success in your academic writing career. I am experienced in helping scholars respond to reviewers and refining texts to address critical feedback.
I pay close attention to inclusive language, as I believe it is important to consider the rich diversity of the international readers of English-language texts.
I am an accredited editor (AE) with the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd), and I belong to several professional editing and translation organisations. I've organised, hosted and moderated numerous online editing events for professional development and networking. For the past three years, I have hosted a monthly international networking group for English-language editors based in the Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
My own academic specialisation is linguistics, and my PhD thesis focused on the problems of translating the works of the Japanese children's author and poet Kenji Miyazawa.
