Say it with the right words!

Hi, I’m Marja (pronounced Maaria).

I can help you make sure your words are clear, concise and get your message to your reader. I can help you create user-friendly writing while preserving your unique voice (that's what makes your writing yours).

I will work with you to make sure your writing flows, makes sense, sounds like you intended it to, the spelling and grammar is correct, and your document looks professional. I provide a comprehensive business editing and plain language service, working with a range of large and small business clients.

Clients

My clients are experts who need help to improve their writing to get the results they need. They want professional or plain language documents that get their message across.

I work with business, government and independent clients, and help them to look at their writing from their readers' point of view. I can work in most sectors, and cover business and finance, agriculture, education, health, climate and the environment, and general subjects.

I always strive to ensure my clients are happy with the work I do for them, and many clients use my service regularly or refer me on to others. I work with clients from around the world.

Background

I was born in The Netherlands and immigrated to New Zealand when I was four, completing all my schooling here. I am fluent in Dutch, though English is my native language.

I earned a BA in modern languages and European studies from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand, which included studies in linguistics, French and Russian. I then earned a Bachelor of Speech and Language Therapy from Canterbury University, Christchurch, New Zealand, which I put to use for two years, working with children and adults with speech or language disorders.

In 2015, I built on my qualifications and experience in language and linguistics areas by training to be an editor. This combines my love of reading with my love of words and how they work.

I live on a farm in the South Island of New Zealand, so have a good understanding of the agricultural industry as well as environmental concerns.

Testimonials

"Our organisation had worked with Clearlingo on another project, so we returned to them for another piece of work. Marja was efficient and professional. My queries were responded to promptly and even my tight timeframe was not too much of an ask for Clearlingo to achieve. Would recommend and definitely will use again for other projects." KK, QEII National Trust, NZ

"I found Marja professional and easy to work with. She truly elevated my writing, helping me to consider elements from the reader's perspective to ensure my messages got across in the most impactful way. I would both work with her again and recommend her to others." Danijela Armitage, Owner of Nourish & Tempt
