London
I’ve been copyediting for nearly 15 years, specialising in the academic humanities and in polishing non-native English (including machine translations). With a PhD in English, I also teach literature and language in adult education. I have a mature and international outlook, equally at home working with students, academics, journalists, judges and barristers. Clients have praised my professionalism, flexibility, precision and patience.
I edit dissertations, articles, books and reports in the humanities, legal, environmental sectors.
I also have connections to Japan and some elementary knowledge of Japanese; I have worked with a number of organisations and academics from that country.

Testimonials
"Working with him has been insightful and easy-going, as he is very professional and knowledgeable. I really enjoyed our collaboration." - Lucía Ferro, author
"Love the precision!" - Mark Lynas, author and founder of WePlanet
"Lewis is an excellent copy-editor whose services I’ve used for over 2 years on both small and large projects. I’ve worked with many copy-editors before him, and found Lewis to be very accurate and reliable. I greatly appreciate both his professionalism and flexibility. Never missing a deadline, Lewis can turn around work quickly when needed, while keeping great attention to detail. On occasion, Lewis had to work with fairly poor auto-translations, but he managed to turn even these into coherent and engaging texts. I have no hesitation in recommending Lewis for copy-editing." - Marco Visscher, author, editor
“Lewis is unusual in being able to map a project, understand exactly what is needed when and to follow through in great detail to the very end. He is precise, patient, efficient, analytical and creative in his approach. It is a very valuable set of skills!” - Maria Padget, communications consultant
