About Kelly

Featured

Congratulations on writing your story. You've done the hard part, but the work isn't over quite yet. Before you approach an agent or publish your manuscript, you need an editor to help polish your words and make them shine in a creative, clear and consistent manner. That's where I come in.

I'm an experienced editorial professional, specializing in all levels of editing fiction and non-fiction, with almost 20 years in the world of publishing and communications. Based in Toronto, Canada, after exciting professional stints in Los Angeles, California, and London, England, I am comfortable editing to US, UK or Canadian spelling and style.

I studied editing at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada, where I was awarded the Marsh Jeanneret Memorial Award for excellence in editing. Prior to editing, I was a reporter with a national weekly magazine. My writing background coupled with my editing experience makes me a diplomatic editor who is at ease with writers.

I am also a member of the international editorial collective Editing Globally, a group of experienced editorial professionals who provide seamless and thorough editorial services to clients around the world.

From developmentally editing a Cold War-era memoir to copy-editing a collection of essays written by Nobel Prize-winning economists to proofreading a YA book about a Korean boy's struggle to cope with loss, I love the variety of my work! From self-help books to historical fiction, from a series of whodunnit mysteries to a collection of short stories and plays, I have worked with authors from around the world on hundreds of books.

I am particularly adept at working with new authors who might require multiple stages of editing. With fiction authors, I help strengthen their characters, plots, point of view and timelines. With non-fiction writers, I help polish and present their ideas in a clear and consistent way. And with all, I help bring out the best in their writing. I'd be happy to discuss your project with you and see how I can help.

Many, many thanks for your keen eye and thoughtful suggestions. You've made Why Was Rachel Murdered? a better read and given me added confidence as I move it forward into publication. It was a pleasure working with you. I hope you're available when my next MS needs editorial help.

Bill Prentice, Why Was Rachel Murdered?

Working with Kelly Lamb on our book was like having a third member on our team. My husband and I wrote Retired Broke, and Kelly definitely helped polish it. Her questions and insights were spot-on, and her advice on language usage valuable. Our book is definitely better because of her input. No matter how good you are as a writer, having an editor like Kelly to look over your work can only make your finished product better.

Jane Kirk, Retired Broke: How to Fix Your Retirement

Kelly Lamb is a wonderful person to work with. Speaking to Kelly about my editing needs, she answered all my questions and concerns, and worked within my budget. I was seeking somebody who understood my work and the editorial services I required. Kelly is thorough and attentive to detail, flexible, and offers recommendations as needed. During the editing process, I had many questions. Kelly replied promptly to my questions, and went over and above my editing needs. In the end, my manuscript was clean and ready for printing. If you are seeking quality editing, Kelly provides excellent service and addresses all your concerns and queries. Therefore, I highly recommend Kelly Lamb for all you editing needs.

James Duignam, Soular Return: A Personal Journey of Self-discovery

I was immensely impressed by, and grateful for, Kelly's vast knowledge of the intricacies of the English language. In addition, I greatly appreciated her ability to pinpoint the reference sources with scientific precision, as well as her flexibility and customer-oriented approach, which really facilitated the process for me.

B.K. Chu, Youngho and Chadori: The Door to the Spirit World

Kelly Lamb and I worked successfully together on a demanding project over several months without a single hitch. It was an amazing undertaking and she provided me with a wealth of wide-ranging advice, and clear and precise editing of my memoir with excellent communication. My experiences and feelings working with Kelly are better expressed through the following prose: ‘I had a fantastic recipe for a superior draught beer. On completing the brewing process and allowing for the required period of fermentation, I sampled the potion. To my dismay, the produce was seriously lacking in taste and a sense of excellence. Kelly Lamb stepped in, adjusted the ingredients, refined the process and tweaked the brew. I now have an astounding infusion that delights the cockles of the heart.’
