About Hannah

Featured

I specialise in developmental editing for fantasy and romance. I have been editing since 2016 and have worked with many independent authors.

My career began in academic publishing, where I spent seven years working in various editorial and production roles. I have worked on lists including education (early years and primary), philosophy, psychology and business lists in both British and American English.

Outside work I especially enjoy reading classic literature such as Dickens, Austen and Tolstoy but also many modern authors, historical fiction, romance and my favourite genre, fantasy. My other hobbies include running, baking, knitting and crochet.

Testimonials

Even from our first chats, you were very reassuring, and your feedback didn't have that negative criticism that we worry we're going to get back from editors. It genuinely felt like “I want to help you make this as good as it can be”, which anyone who's serious about writing should want from an editor.

Amanda A. Jean

As an editor Ms. Close is very careful and detailed with a sharp eye for unlikely irregularities. Above all I am impressed with her ability to understand the intended meaning of the text and suggest sharper and clearer sentences.

Samia, an Academic

The work you did is superb and taught me some really important lessons about grammar and apostrophes, as well as highlighting spelling errors for me, and generally brought the work to a publishable standard. I think you’ve worked brilliantly and given me good advice all the way.

The opportunity to email you with queries as I’m working through the book is really thoughtful and kind and though everything so far has been quite straight forward, I think it’s a really nice and helpful thing for you to offer.

I’ve found working with you to be really good fun and it’s been an absolute pleasure.

Joe Clunes, independent author

Hannah worked for Keystroke Typesetting & Graphic Design for several years as a proofreader and I can recommend her approach to work and her professionalism wholeheartedly. Apart from proofreading, Hannah liaised with authors/editors regarding any queries that arose from her proofreading work and was an asset to our team.
