Helping authors and businesses polish their text for publication
Specialist in non-fiction for adults, from motorsport to marketing, accounting to ancient history. I focus on the details that many people hate – spelling, grammar and consistency. I'm especially keen to take on more business thought leadership.
I also do some developmental editing and manuscript review; and can help with reducing word counts (eg to meet journal submission criteria).
I have book publishing experience with DK and Octopus Publishing, I've worked on motorsport magazines for Haymarket (including F1 Racing and Autosport) and I've worked in the corporate world (accountancy texts at KPMG and legal content at Freshfields). This range of environments means that I'm also used to editing texts written by authors for whom English is a second language.
I also have a diploma in Egyptology, so I'm especially well-suited to history texts.

‘Thank you for being such an excellent and kind-hearted editor!! I was buried in this book and you helped bring me back out into the light of day again (that thing that writers often forget).’
B.L. Molyneaux, author, 2022
‘Suzanne Arnold, who edited the manuscript, is extraordinary.’
Ian J. Bickerton and Carla L. Klausner, authors, in their acknowledgements, A History of the Arab–Israeli Conflict, 2022
'Thank you very much for the huge amount of work you have done. You have been calm, courteous and methodical throughout. It has been an absolute pleasure working with you and I hope to work with you again at some stage in the future.'
Clive Holmwood PhD, author, Dramatherapist and Arts Education Consultant, 2021
'Thank you for doing such a grand job. You’ve been quick, efficient and very professional. A real pleasure to work with.'
Paul Kinder, Palawan Press, 2021
'What a star! Suzanne’s amazingly detailed corrections made a real difference to the ease of doing the project and without doubt greatly improved the quality of the book. How marvellous to work with somebody who does exactly what is required and always hits her deadlines.'
Dick Stroud, independent author
'Suzanne is exactly what you want in an editor: someone who has an eye for detail, without letting that outweigh overall flow and common sense. She finds solutions to wording and layout issues rather than pointing out problems. Her client management skills are excellent – she strikes up an easy rapport, with intelligent and engaging conversation, whilst ensuring the job gets done. This enables her to gently guide people towards the best solution.'
Stuart Lennon (we worked together at Freshfields)
'Suzanne has edited several books for Haynes, including a high-profile one we published with Sir Stirling Moss, and she has been competent and professional in every way.'
Mark Hughes (2012)
