About the local group

The local group began life in June 2009. We meet regularly in Saltaire, West Yorkshire, for a cuppa and an informal chat on all things editorial.
Our meetings are a great chance for those involved in editing and proofreading – or who want to find out more about it – to meet and share experiences with others in the area. We sometimes have a theme, such as professional development or finding work, but there’s always plenty of opportunity to discuss other issues (e.g. getting started in the profession, marketing your services, filling in your tax return, local networking, training options). We usually have a good mix of old hands and new faces.

Just wanted to say thanks for organising today’s meeting about finding work. A strange feeling to be surrounded by other people involved in this solitary business, and a good feeling as well! A very useful and productive meeting.
Feedback from a newcomer to the group
It doesn’t end when the meeting does – the connections we make extend beyond the three-monthly catch-up.
