CIEP conference 2020 – cancelled
In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the CIEP Council has taken the difficult decision to cancel this year’s conference, planned to take place in September, in its current form. Although no one knows what the situation will be in September, we don’t think it’s right to ask delegates to book and pay for a place at an event that we currently don’t know with certainty will take place, and are also mindful of the fact that most editorial professionals are self-employed and so may be facing financially uncertain times.
The annual conference is a highlight of the professional year for many editors and proofreaders, and having to cancel it is particularly disappointing as this would have been our first since becoming the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading. However, over the coming weeks we will be working on ideas for an online alternative to the live conference, and we’ll publish them here in due course. If you have any expertise in this area and want to get involved in the planning, please do get in touch with Beth Hamer, the conference director, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Looking forward to a time when things have (hopefully) returned to something like normal, the CIEP is delighted to confirm that the 2021 conference will take place in Glasgow, at the Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel, Clydebank, from 11 to 13 September. The venue is 20 minutes from Glasgow Airport and is easily accessible by train from the city centre. As well as excellent conference facilities and comfortable, well-equipped bedrooms, it has an on-site Centre for Health and Wellbeing with an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and gym.
