Webinar: Breaking into academic copyediting
Webinar: Breaking into academic copyediting
Academic publishing is often seen as difficult to break into, but it follows its own conventions, workflows and expectations that can be learned.
This webinar provides an introduction to the academic publishing sector while offering practical advice on how to break into it. We will explore how academic publishing differs from other areas of editing, the types of publications and editorial workflows copyeditors encounter, and what publishers and academic clients expect. Alongside this, we will discuss practical strategies for gaining relevant experience, building a portfolio and finding work in the sector.
Topics will include:
- understanding the academic publishing sector
- how academic copyediting differs from other editorial specialisms
- what to expect when working with academic clients and publishers
- practical strategies for breaking into the industry.
Participants will leave with a better understanding of how academic publishing operates, what is expected of academic copyeditors, and practical steps they can take to begin building a career in the sector.
The webinar will be recorded and the recording will be available on the On demand page of the CIEP website. Bookings will close at 1pm BST on 14 October.
