This course is designed for experienced editors who want to add romance to their existing repertoire or newly qualified editors who either want to specialise in romance or want to generalise and include romance. It is intended for those who have previously completed general editorial training. Weekly sessions will take place from 1.00 to 2.30pm GMT.
This course is designed for experienced editors who want to add romance to their existing repertoire or newly qualified editors who either want to specialise in romance or want to generalise and include romance. It is intended for those who have previously completed general editorial training.
Over the four weeks, you’ll learn all you need to know about the romance genre so you can deliver the best possible editing service to your clients. Sessions will be interactive and fun, including practical exercises and group work to strengthen understanding. There will be a short, unmarked exercise to complete ahead of each session to aid discussion.
This virtual learning course is delivered over four live sessions, each lasting one and a half hours. Delegates are required to attend all sessions as follows:
Session 1, 11 November, 1.00-2.30pm GMT - And they lived happily ever after: is it a romance?
Session 2, 18 November, 1.00-2.30pm GMT - From Mr Darcy to Mr Gray: characters in romance
Session 3, 25 November, 1.00-2.30pm GMT - It's getting hot in here...
Session 4, 2 December, 1.00-2.30pm GMT - Modern romance: romance in the 21st century

Aimee Walker is a romance and women’s fiction editor from Northern Ireland. Her background in education and therapeutic counselling resulted in a natural affinity to coaching authors, and she uses a very collaborative and coaching-based approach with the majority of her clients.
Aimee is passionate about helping women self-publish and having romance respected as much as other genre fiction. She is the author of Top Tropes: A Romance Writer’s Guide and has also published a romance anthology, a romance planner and a DIY series bible. Her next book, The Romance Author’s Companion, will be published next year.
When she isn’t working, Aimee can be found pottering in her garden with her menagerie of animals.
