About Kelly

BOOK A CALL TO DISCUSS YOUR PROJECT

You've got a deadline, a full inbox and a publication that needs to be right. That's where I come in. I'm Kelly Owen – a communications and publications professional with 25 years of experience working inside fast-paced editorial environments. I've been the person managing publications in government, agency and charity settings. I know what it takes to get content out of the door on time, on brand and completely clean.

I work with communications managers, marketing leads and editorial teams who need more than a careful pair of eyes – they need someone who understands the process, works at pace and slots seamlessly into how they operate. Whether that's proofreading a final draft before it goes to print, or taking ownership of a publication from brief to delivery, I can help.

Recent clients include: Ecclesiastical Insurance, St James's Place, Tearfund, Christians Against Poverty, Magdalen College, Wellington College, University of Portsmouth, Arden University, Holland Cooper, Fair Education Alliance, Kingfisher plc.

What I can help you with

I offer two types of support – and clients can use both:

Proofreading and editing – accurate, reliable checking of reports, newsletters, prospectuses, annual reports, website copy, policy documents and campaign materials. I work swiftly but carefully, and I'll always tell you honestly if I spot something that needs more than a light touch.

Publications and communications support – project-based or ongoing support for communications teams who need an experienced pair of hands. I can manage publications from brief to delivery, coordinate contributors and schedules, provide editorial oversight, or simply step in when capacity is tight. I've done this in government, charity and diocese settings – I understand how busy teams work and what makes projects fall over.

Why work with me

I'm not a quiet book editor or an academic researcher. I come from a world of deadlines, stakeholders and multiple competing priorities – and I've spent 25 years helping organisations get their communications right under exactly those conditions.

As a Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), I'm held to a Professional Practice Code – and Professional Membership isn't simply a paid subscription. It's an assessed grade, requiring demonstrated competence and experience. I'm also listed on the publicly searchable CIEP directory, so you can verify my membership at any time.

I act as another member of your team – responsive, reliable and at the end of an email when you need me. My clients tend to stay for years, not projects.

A confidential service backed by robust systems

The security of your information is my priority. I hold professional indemnity insurance with PolicyBee, my systems are protected by ESET digital cyber security software, and I'm registered with the Information Commissioner's Office.
