Non-fiction editing

When it comes to finding a copyeditor or proofreader, the most important thing is to find someone who truly understands your needs. That's why I always strive to build a relationship of trust and understanding with my clients from the very first moment they come to me. I'm dedicated to making their words the absolute best they can be, and I am always here to help if they find themselves struggling or in need of a little extra guidance.

What I do

After spending over a decade in academia, specifically law,  I understand the rules, the boundaries, the importance of peer reviews, and the essential elements of a robust academic article, paper, thesis and dissertation. It takes time, dedication, and expertise to craft a well-structured and well-researched piece of writing that will stand up to scrutiny in the academic world. With my experience, skills, knowledge and training, I can help you produce high-quality work that meets the academic community's demands.

About me

I've been editing for most of my career, especially during my years in academia. I'm not just a qualified copyeditor and proofreader, though; I'm a dog owner, writer, a mediocre photographer, and a victorious chocolate eater – which leads me to be a procrastinating runner.

As a writer of academic papers and an author of non-fiction and fiction, I know what it's like to be on both sides of editing. My aim, therefore, is to make it a motivational and engaging experience for my clients.

Working with Julie has been an absolute pleasure. She is efficient, organised, courteous and goes above and beyond when deadlines are tight. Julie has worked with PA EDitorial on a large project for the last few months, she has provided expert assistance, worked well independently and successfully assisted with the management and delegation of work when required. We would not hesitate to ask Julie to assist us with future projects.

Lizi Dawes

Executive Director

PA EDitorial

Julie's homepage copywriting is excellent — something of a masterclass, in fact! It’s powerful and persuasive but doesn’t feel excessive, and there’s no over-claiming going on. She makes every word count, works hard when it comes to layout and choice of images – including ‘cool and current’ elements such as Social Media links.

Lee Lillie

Copywriter

Julie was professional, accurate, and dealt with my need for a fast turnaround. My deadlines were exceptionally tight, and yet at short notice, she managed to review a piece of academic writing and get it back to me checked and proofread, including my very long and complex references. I was impressed at every turn.

Julie didn’t let me down with my second piece of work either, some reflective writing, ensuring she reviewed with an exceptional eye for detail and accuracy.

I do not hesitate in recommending highly, Julie’s services.

Louise Stratton

Asset Manager

Oxford University

From the first communications we had, it was obvious Miss Pinborough, a law professional herself, was scrupulous: with a keen eye for detail as she proofed, queried and edited every word of the guidance we were compiling for a student initiative.

Her drafting skills are impeccable. She was able to research points of law, draft appropriate letters adopting that law, and mastered complex facts with very little notice, as well as meeting deadlines for me.

She has a professionalism to the nib of her pen whilst also being a digital media specialist, whether for the purposes of communications, research or presentation and marketing, I would recommend her for small and corporate projects alike.

Obviously trained to work with words at the highest professional level, I would not hesitate to ask her to assist in future endeavours.

Katherine Toogood

Barrister

I know from first-hand experience that Julie’s attention to detail is second to none.  Not only does Julie ensure that material is free from error, but she enriches it and makes it a more compelling piece of work.  Julie is adaptable and can work with a variety of different types of material. No matter what is thrown at her, and no matter how short the timeframe, the quality of Julie’s work remains of a consistently exceptional standard.

Karl Laird

Lecturer and Tutor

Oxford University

I am happy and would like to thank you for a job well done. The accompanying documents are clear and the table of content you added is so helpful. Thank you for your professionalism.

Bolaji R

PhD Student

Julie's intuition is second to none. She is utterly dedicated to providing edits of the highest quality within a very reasonable timeframe. Her timekeeping and turnaround under pressure are exemplary. Julie’s warm, buoyant, and professional attitude is infectious and her interactions with colleagues and clients at all levels are always very positive. She displays a high level of expertise and knowledge in all aspects of her role. Julie is always willing and ready to assist when and wherever she can, including at very short notice. We feel very lucky to have such a proficient, committed copyeditor on board.
