Session 1 – breakout seminars (running concurrently)
This session is for all editorial professionals who are interested in hearing about the importance of editing and plain language principles in a context which they might not have had any exposure to in the past.
This session is an introduction to the world of military terminology in NATO. In an international military context, the importance of everyone having a common understanding of the words being used cannot be understated; if you get it wrong it could lead to unintended consequences, which includes death in the most extreme case. The process of getting 32 member states to agree the meaning of military terms, in two languages, is a complex but fascinating process (at least I think it is...). This session looks at the process of developing military terms and definitions in a multinational context and some of the pitfalls we face.
