Session 5 – breakout seminars (running concurrently)
This session is for editors who are interested in learning about how AI is affecting the editorial profession and workflows and how editorial professionals can showcase their human expertise and communicate their value to clients.
As AI technology evolves rapidly, editorial professionals face new challenges and opportunities. This session explores how AI is reshaping our workflows, tools, texts we work on, and even language. Rather than replacing editors, AI can become a tool that enhances editorial work – but only when guided by human expertise.
I will discuss the importance of keeping a human in the loop (which means achieving what neither a human being nor a machine can achieve on their own), by embracing the natural evolution of editorial practices – just as we moved from pen-marked manuscripts to digital tools, AI represents the next step in technological adaptation.
I will also touch upon the risks of AI-generated content without accountability and how editors can leverage AI effectively while maintaining editorial integrity.
I will also share insights from my experience training AI models to be neutral and unbiased – highlighting why human judgement is paramount.
