Session 2 – breakout seminars (running concurrently)
This session is best suited to intermediate and experienced fiction editors who are looking to further develop their skills.
Lyrical editing requires emotional intelligence that, at present, generative AI can’t provide. Fiction editors with these skills are more likely to be able to offer value to writers and therefore remain competitive.
This workshop will explore six rhythmic devices that can be used to create lyrical prose that’s rich in mood and emotion.
Editors will work in groups to gain practical line editing experience of editing fiction emotionally – skills that they can take back to their own studios and implement in client work.
Louise Harnby is a professional fiction editor with 35 years' publishing experience, and she specialises in working with independent crime, thriller and mystery writers.
She is an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), has curated The Editing Blog since 2011, and co-hosts The Editing Podcast with Denise Cowle.
