About the   local group

The coordinators of the   local group are .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Surrounded by other well-established groups in far-away Hertfordshire, East Anglia and Cambridge, our new group encompasses the Hertfordshire/Essex border nicely. It suitably alternates its meetings between the old market towns of Saffron Walden (Essex) and Bishop’s Stortford (Hertfordshire).

What works well are the alternating venues for meetings, which are held bi-monthly. There’s a wealth of experience among the group’s members, and there are a few only just starting out, with zero publishing background. It’s a chance for a group of like-minded people to share views and observations, and raise queries about the intricacies of work and challenges which freelancers face in their day-to-day life

We meet up in a café big enough to host 12–14 people and there are now 20 of us on the email circulation list! We invite anyone curious enough to meet other proofreaders and editors to join us (don’t worry, quite a lot of us are shy), and non-CIEP members are also welcome. Our meetings are informal. We’re still finding our feet, group-wise, as our first meeting only took place in January 2017. Please get in touch if you’re interested in attending.

For more information or to attend a meeting, please contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) directly or use our .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). We’re on Twitter, as well. Follow us on: @HertsEssexSfEP

A detailed account of how the   local group came to be set up, and how it very quickly grew – which many members who currently don’t have a local group nearby will find inspiring – can be found on the CIEP blog.
