Local groups: Calendar of events

Page owner: Community director

CIEP members are welcome at all local group events. Those who don't already belong to the Institute are welcome to attend up to three local group meetings before deciding whether to join.

What the groups do varies. Most meet regularly, providing opportunities for passing on knowledge and networking. In addition, they may visit local printers and other relevant venues, have speakers at their meetings and organise training.

Note: Members of the CIEP and the Society of Indexers (SI) are now able (and encouraged) to attend each other’s local group meetings. These meetings offer the chance to network, discuss common topics and to gain an insight into the issues faced by the other organisation. The SI has several local groups of varying sizes who meet for informal lunches, more structured workshops and excursions to local sites. For more information on the SI’s local groups, please see the SI website or contact the .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

IMPORTANT NOTICE

In light of the escalating risks associated with COVID-19, the CIEP Council has asked all of its local groups to suspend their in-person activities until further notice.

Unfortunately, this means not only that all forthcoming local group meetings are cancelled with immediate effect, but also that some groups’ plans to mark chartership with a special event are necessarily postponed. We will all look forward to celebrating with renewed enthusiasm once restrictions are lifted.

While the government’s advice at this time stops short of such action, the Council has assessed the risk to its members and believes that this is a prudent step both generally and specifically, given its membership demographics.

Tuesday 28 April

1.30pm Glasgow Group – Zoom meeting.

We aim to discuss two dovetailing topics: ‘Being busy and reaping the rewards’ and ‘What does the crisis mean for our working lives?’

For many of us, our work prospects have already started to change and many others will be uncertain about how things are going to go over the next few months and beyond. So although we all still do want to be busy and reap the rewards, our minds are very focused on what the pandemic crisis means for our working lives right now – whether our clients have put projects on hold, or perhaps might require our services for new needs that arise.

We are a friendly and supportive bunch of editors and proofreaders who welcome all members of CIEP and the Society of Indexers, and we hope anyone considering joining CIEP will also feel confident about coming along. We normally meet monthly in the Woodlands Workspace, Glasgow, but for now are meeting via Zoom.
